Former Colorado Postal Worker Pleads Guilty to Ballot Theft

Vicki Stuart, a 64-year-old woman from Colorado, has admitted to her involvement in a scheme to steal ballots ahead of the 2024 presidential election, resulting in her guilty plea on Monday. Facing a total of 34 charges, including identity theft and forgery, she appeared in the 21st Judicial District Court to face the consequences of her actions.
During the court proceedings, Judge Brian Flynn questioned Stuart, who mostly responded affirmatively. However, she made a significant admission when asked why she chose to accept a plea deal. “I feel like I am guilty for the part that I played in it,” she stated, highlighting her acknowledgment of wrongdoing.
Details of the Case
Stuart’s legal troubles began in November, when she was charged with multiple offenses related to a scheme that involved stealing over a dozen ballots from legitimate voters in Mesa County. The objective, as outlined by prosecutors, was to examine the state’s voting security measures critically.
The fraudulent activities came to light when voters were notified through the Colorado Ballot tracking system that their ballots were being processed, despite the fact that they had not received them. This raised red flags, leading to an investigation. Authorities later confirmed that three of the ballots that were stolen and subsequently cast fraudulently were accepted during the signature verification process and counted as legitimate votes.
Employment and Collaborators
At the time of the ballot theft, Stuart was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Grand Junction, where she had direct access to mail-in ballots. She conducted this scheme in collaboration with another woman, Sally Jane Maxedone, who is also facing charges related to the case. Maxedone was present in court for a review hearing, and her case has been scheduled for continuation on May 29.
